Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended four early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
