The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Boost Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct game identity.

The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete message from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our players.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in welcoming him next week. We are all eager to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

David

Game Details and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every match. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, put it on the line, and trust your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."

The game does not have an official debut schedule or platforms, but fans can anticipate additional details as creation advances.
